Akai Ubium Village Head Seeks Police Intervention Over Rising Crime, DPO Pledges Support
The Village Head of Akai Ubium, His Highness Eteidung Esema Esema II, led a high-powered delegation to the Nsit Ubium Divisional Police Headquarters on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, seeking urgent intervention over escalating security threats in the community.
The courtesy visit, which included Akai Ubium Village Council members and community leaders, was aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Akai Ubium community to combat rising criminal activities.
Alarming Security Challenges in Akai Ubium
In his address, Eteidung Esema Esema II highlighted pressing security concerns, including:
1. Reckless Road Violations:
- Motorcyclists and tricycle operators frequently drive against traffic on the Eket-Oron Road, endangering lives.
- Many vehicles operate at night without headlights, increasing accident risks.
- Despite a community ban, individuals still loiter on road medians at night, disregarding safety warnings.
2. Criminal Vandalism:
- Five suspects were recently arrested for stealing electrical cables and equipment from the primary school and health center in Akai Ubium.
- The suspects who were handed over to the police, are currently undergoing prosecution.
3. Youth Involvement in Crime
- Rising cases of substance abuse (Indian hemp and "ICE") among youths.
- Increased underage gambling and cult-related activities, threatening community peace. Parents were implored to ensure that their underaged children stay away from such premises to avoid being corrupted.
Appeal for Police Reinforcement
The Village Head acknowledged the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force but called for:
-Increased patrols and surveillance in Akai Ubium.
- Enhanced intelligence-sharing between the police and community vigilantes.
-Strict enforcement of traffic laws toIbuum I reckless driving.
DPO’s Response & Acceptance of Invitation
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Nsit Ubium Division SP Celestine Aneke, commended the community’s proactive measures and pledged full support in tackling insecurity.

- Acceptance of an invitation to speak at the Akai Ubium General Meeting on June 7, 2025, by 10:00 AM.
- Commitment to community policing, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

Call for Community Participation
The Village Council urged all indigenes to attend the June 7 meeting, describing it as a "rare opportunity" to interact directly with the Divisional Police Officer* and contribute to security strategies.
