HIGHLIGHTS FROM AKAI UBIUM GENERAL MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY, 7TH JUNE 2025 AT AKAI VILLAGE HALL (AFE AKAI) – 10:00 AM

The Akai Ubium community convened its fifth General Meeting for the year 2025 on Saturday, 7th June, at the Akai Village Town Hall.

The meeting was chaired by the Akai Village Council, led by:

His Highness, Eteidung Esema Esema II (Village Head)
The Council Chairman
Heads of Family Units (Mbong Ekpuk)
Other dignitaries and invited guests

The meeting began with a vibrant praise and worship session, followed by an exhortation by Apostle Michael Effiong Akpan of God’s Standard Mission, Akai Ubium. Speaking on the theme “Take Care for Me,” He drew from several biblical texts including Deut. 10:14–21, Psalm 24:1, Exodus 2:9, Romans 14:12, 2 Chron. 7:14, and 1 Cor. 10:31–33.

Apostle Akpan reminded the community that God is concerned with how people manage what He has entrusted to them. He emphasized accountability, service, and righteousness as keys to attracting divine blessings and favour.

Prayers were offered for peace, love, protection, and progress for all sons and daughters of Akai Ubium—both at home and in the diaspora.

COMMITTEE INAUGURATIONS
Two vital committees were constituted during the meeting to enhance governance and local initiatives:

1. Road Safety Volunteers Committee
This committee will work in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Eket Command, to monitor road safety compliance within the community. They are mandated to begin daily night patrols by 6:00 PM, arresting any driver using only one headlight, or operating motorcycles, tricycles, or handcarts without lights and also those taking "ONE WAY" on Eket-Oron Road at anytime of the day. His Highness, Eteidung Esema Esema II, sternly warned the members against compromise and urged strict enforcement.

SECURITY SEMINAR BY DPO NSIT UBIUM DIVISION
A special highlight of the meeting was a powerful security awareness session by SP Celestine Aneke, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nsit Ubium Division, and his team.

In his address, SP Aneke educated the community on various crimes and their consequences. Offences discussed included vandalism of public infrastructure, rape, theft, land grabbing, and spousal theft—all of which he declared punishable under the law.

He listed the social impacts of criminality: fear, illness, societal breakdown, hindered development, restricted movement, and the destruction of cultural unity.

The DPO issued a strong warning: anyone caught engaging in such acts—regardless of political, social, or religious status—will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

He also pledged to shut down any business premises that foster or shield criminal elements.

Additionally, he promised to deploy a patrol team to the area for consistent monitoring and response.

In his response, Village Council Chairman Obong Francis Essien Akpan reaffirmed the community’s full support and cooperation with the Nigeria Police to uphold law and order.

UPCOMING ENTREPRENEURIAL TRAINING
The community announced a Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Training scheduled for Saturday, 14th June 2025, at the Salvation Army Primary School, Akai Ubium by 10:00 AM. Participants will be trained in liquid soap production and chin-chin making. All interested sons and daughters of Akai Ubium are encouraged to participate.

 NATIONAL SOCIAL REGISTER VERIFICATION
Representatives of the National Social Register were also received during the meeting. They enlightened the community on the importance of proper registration for social benefits. Over 1,500 names were captured but will undergo a verification exercise to confirm authenticity.

His Highness, Eteidung Esema Esema II, approved the use of each of the six unit halls in the village for this verification exercise.
