AKAI UBIUM INDIGENE IN DIASPORA, UKO-IDEN IBOK J. ESEMA, PAYS HOMAGE TO AKAI VILLAGE COUNCIL
"We must work together to revive the lost glory of Akai—for the betterment of our people."
It was a memorable homecoming filled with warmth and pride as Uko-Iden Ibok J. Esema, President of the Akai Developments Association in Diaspora and a proud son of Akai Ubium, paid homage to the Akai Village Council on Friday, 4th July 2025, during their monthly council meeting.
A distinguished U.S.-based Nigerian citizen and the elder brother of the Village Head, Eteidung Esema Esema II, Uko-Iden Ibok J. Esema expressed deep gratitude to God Almighty for preserving his life and that of the entire Akai Ubium community. He also commended the Akai Village Council for their unwavering support of the Village Head and noted with joy the steady progress and developments in the community, which he had observed via social media.
In a warm and formal welcome, Eteidung Esema Esema II introduced each member of his council to his elder brother, describing him as a pillar of strength, unity, and leadership for the community—both at home and abroad.
During the visit, Uko-Iden Ibok J. Esema expressed heartfelt concern over the deteriorating state of infrastructure and the missed opportunities in Akai Ubium over the years. However, he expressed strong optimism about the future of the village. One of his key calls to action was the renovation and modernization of the Akai Village Hall (Afe Akai). He proposed that Akai deserves a *state-of-the-art civic center* equipped with modern facilities including:
* A vocational training room
* A meeting auditorium with comfortable seating
* Potable water
* Sanitary facilities
* Children's recreational amenities
* Stable electricity
Leading by example, Uko-Iden graciously pledged ₦500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) as his personal contribution toward kickstarting the project. He also called on all industrious sons and daughters of Akai Ubium—both at home and in the diaspora—to generously support the initiative. He volunteered to lead a crowdfunding campaign to ensure its successful realization.
In a show of cultural respect and gratitude, Uko-Iden Ibok J. Esema presented a symbolic "set of goat" to the Akai Village Council. He expressed his delight at finally meeting the council since its inauguration and urged the leadership and community to work together with renewed commitment toward reviving Akai Ubium for the collective good of all its people.
In response, the Council Chairman, Chief Francis Essien Akpan, warmly accepted the gift and thanked Uko-Iden Ibok Esema for his generosity, patriotism, and continued interest in the progress of his ancestral home.
The visit concluded on a joyful and optimistic note, leaving a renewed sense of purpose and unity among all who were present.
Signed:
